My Portrait Studio in the Surrey Hills

The Studio

I paint portraits in oil and charcoal from my studio in the Surrey Hills, near Dorking. Sitters come from across Surrey, London and beyond, and many say the setting is part of what makes the experience special. The studio is filled with beautiful natural light and surrounded by quiet countryside, the perfect place to slow down for a few hours.

My studio is set up for one thing: painting people from life. The natural light is soft and consistent, which makes a real difference to skin tones and to the depth of the finished portrait. It’s a relaxed space, and you’re very welcome to visit before your first sitting.

The Surrey Hills

A sitting usually lasts about two hours, and it’s far more relaxed than most people expect. We chat, take plenty of breaks, have tea, and the time passes surprisingly quickly. The Surrey Hills are right on the doorstep, so if you fancy some fresh air between sessions, there are lovely walks within a few minutes of the studio.

Many sitters make a day of it. You might start sitting for your portrait, then finish with lunch at one of the local pubs. For anyone coming from London, it’s a chance to swap the city for open countryside, and to come away having started something you’ll keep for years.

By train: Dorking Station - trains from London Waterloo, Victoria, London Bridge.

By car: We are not far from Dorking, Surrey. A beautiful drive through the Surrey Hills.

Parking: Free parking on site in our driveway.

I’ll send full directions once your sitting is booked.

Areas I cover

Most sittings take place in my studio, but I’m also happy to paint on location. I regularly work with clients across Surrey and London. For large commissions further away, travel is charged separately.
