Caroline has travelled from her studio in London to Africa on many trips in 2015 and Northern India in 2014.

“With and eye which seeks out from the world around her rich, complex shades, lights, luxuriant textures, and a brush which imprints these exuberantly onto canvas Caroline has accumulated an unique collection of studies from diverse locations.

Caroline’s work is driven by determination and intense curiosity. In every setting she achieves trust through her ability to relate intuitively and with warmth to her subjects, though they might be of alien culture. Caroline’s palpable interest, kindness and sympathy are the key to her ability to cross cultural barriers.

I suspect that this fascinating entry into a wider world of portraiture and landscape painting is just the beginning.”

South Africa

She first took her paints to South Africa many years ago on a family trip where she painted at Madikwe Lodge.

In 2015 she travelled to Zimbabwe and Botswana to paint on two three week trips. She has been capturing local faces particularly in and around Bulawayo, was working in the studios of the National Gallery in Bulawayo and the landscapes and wildlife of National Parks throughout Africa. Caroline is particularly interested in painting Africans with Albinism.

Whilst visiting the Secondary School Orphanage in Matopos, Caroline taught basic art classes to the children, many of whom had never painted before. In Harare, Caroline also did a Portrait demonstration covered by ’Zim Artist’ Magazine, with the ticket proceeds going to the Zimbabwean Albinism Society.

"This is the first time I have been taught painting by a lady. In the beginning I thought it was a joke. I had this belief that females cannot draw or art or paint. This lady teacher proved me wrong. She was very good in teaching and she is a good artist. Respect to this lady Caroline and to other lady artists!"

One girl wrote something touching in her evaluation:

"I was surprised that a clean and pretty lady was an artist. When I got home, I told my father that artist like everyone else can choose to be either clean or dirty. I also told him that I wanted to be a clean and pretty artist. For the first time ever, my father allowed me to sit down and draw something for him. I drew his favourite, the cows in his kraal. He is very happy with this drawing. Thank you lady artist, Caro."

Rajasthan

Travelling through Rajasthan on honeymoon with her husband James, Caroline was once again immersed in the distinct textures and culture that had similarly ignited a lifelong love for Africa.

Over the course of a few weeks, Caroline found inspiration in every corner. Steeped in history with a thriving arts scene, Caroline soaked up the country’s thriving rich culture. From the opulent medical architecture to the vast desert land, every turn presented an intense spectrum of colour.

Stretching throughout her trip, Caroline are upon sparks of human interaction in a myriad of settings, from the vivid bustle on the streets of Jaipur to the humble dwellings and the sharing of tea on the edge of the That desert, all captured with a freshly charged flair.
