Mike, whos usual role for the NHS is working as an Orthopedic Registrar has been in ITU assisting with COVID-19 patients.

His wife Sonia, who also works as a Registrar for the NHS, is pregnant and they have a toddler who they are both looking after during this time.

It’s been a pleasure painting Mike who has been a good friend for many years.  We shared a house a few years back which gave me a small insight into the work and hours our NHS workers, like Mike, give on a normal rota let alone what they are sacrificing now.

Mike is painted here just pausing outside for a breath of fresh air. The marks of the extended time wearing the mask still imprinted on his nose and cheeks.“ Caroline

“It was really humbling to be painted by Caroline. It was a pretty tricky time for me working in ITU compared to my usual job in Orthopaedics. My wife is also a doctor in the NHS and things got even more complicated when we found out she was pregnant and we had to shield apart. My wife loves the painting and thinks it has captured me at my most drained.“ Mike””

The NHS portrait will be shown in a beautiful fine art book to be published with Bloomsbury Publishers Ltd in November.

All royalties are going to NHS Charities Together.

Private Collection Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall

1st Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment

On 1 May 2004, Beharry was driving an Armoured Vehicle in Iraq when it came under fire from rocket propelled grenades. Beharry was forced to open his hatch to steer his vehicle, exposing his face and head to attack. He received serious shrapnel injuries to his face and brain. Other rockets then hit the vehicle, incapacitating his commander and injuring several of the crew.

Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry VC was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the British and Commonwealth armed forces, for twice saving members of his unit from ambushes on 1 May and again on 11 June 2004 at Al-Amarah, Iraq.

Having served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq, Beharry is the first recipient of the Victoria Cross for over 30 years and the first living recipient of the VC since 1965. At the time of his award, he was one of only ten living recipients of the VC.

Beharry has now set up the Johnson Beharry VC Foundation to help people out of street gangs and into sustainable careers.

Francis Boulle is best known for being one of the original cast members of E4’s Made In Chelsea, loved for his quirky – and sometimes awkward – charm. Even though he was born into money as he’s a diamond heir he certainly has a flair for business.
