PORTRAIT COMMISSIONS

in charcoal and oil

Building on classical foundations that underpin her ability to capture exceptional likeness, Caroline’s portraiture is elevated by the strength of relationship with her sitters and sensitivity of line,  bringing a contemporary eye to the techniques of the old masters and in doing so capturing a moment in time that feels forever within reach. Her work is elevated by this combination of technical skill and emotional connection. In her personal work she strives to give recognition to those who are suffering and/or campaigning for change.

Born in London, Caroline trained at the atelier Charles Cecil Studios in Florence. She has worked from her Fulham studio for the past 10 years, recently expanding to a converted barn in the Surrey hills ideally suited to larger scale works.

Caroline has held solo shows in London and Brussels, with a permanent collection of her work hanging at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall. She has painted several notable sitters including Royal commissions for Halcyon Days, the British Army and E4 and has received consistently good press coverage including BBC News, Radio 4 Front Row and SKY Arts.

“For someone who’s trying to break that mould a little bit, challenging the masculine / feminine roles of the ways in which artists presented themselves, I think she was double challenged today to do that with Jay given his historicism in the way he looks. Having said that, it’s a beautifully rendered head.”

“And the tones are beautiful. Most importantly the way Caroline puts paint down is just yummy!”

Testimonials

“My sister and I were overwhelmed by the portraits of the children for my fathers 60th. Caroline made the whole experience very enjoyable and easy - she takes photographs of children instead of requesting live sittings. We really will treasure them forever! Thank you Caroline.”

“I have always loved that a drawing or painting brings out the warmth of the character or soul of a person, in contrast to the cold precision of a photographic image. Nowadays with social media and fleeting snapchats it is wonderful to own a timeless and unique work of art that will be cherished for years to come.”

-Ali Clark

“Thomas gave me a portrait of our daughter Mary as a Christmas present. Caroline had previously been commissioned to paint Thomas's father and did such a wonderful job that she was the obvious choice. The painting fills my heart with joy each time I look at it. She has captured Mary's energy and spirit, alongside an uncanny likeness. Caroline communicated regularly with us on the progress and made sure we were completely happy throughout the process.”

“The picture is a moment in time which I have wanted to capture and Caroline has caught it perfectly. The children's personalities shine through. She has managed to paint the naughty sparkle Poppy's eye, the specific rather unique way Arabella crosses her legs and looks after her little sister. Hugo was very young so who knows how she managed  to paint his so perfectly. I will treasure this picture and know it will be enjoyed by the children forever, always.”

“I’ve never sat for a painting before so I wasn’t sure what it’d be like. Sitting for Caroline is like hanging out with a friend for tea/coffee. I wasn’t sure if I could sit still for that long but it wasn’t like that. I had no idea it’d be so much fun sitting for a portrait, it is not what you’d imagine. I haven’t laughed that much in ages…and the result is absolutely stunning.”
